We’re proud to announce that CBN’s Founder, Michael Arthur, has been selected as an Oregon Leader for Outdoor Afro, a nationally recognized nonprofit that celebrates and inspires Black leadership and connection in nature.
This exciting milestone strengthens CBN’s visibility and creates meaningful opportunities for the youth and families we serve.
Why This Matters for CBN and Our Youth
As a newer organization, Congregation of Black Naturalists (CBN) is rooted in the vision of reconnecting BIPOC communities with the land, cultural identity, and holistic wellness. While our name is still growing, this leadership role positions Michael—and CBN—within a powerful national movement working to ensure nature is a place of belonging and leadership for BIPOC communities.
Through this new collaboration with Outdoor Afro, CBN will:
Create more youth-centered programs that connect participants to nature and to each other through culturally relevant outdoor experiences.
Expand access to educational opportunities that promote environmental awareness, leadership, and advocacy.
Inspire BIPOC youth to explore careers that support environmental sustainability and wellness in their communities.
Bridge local, grassroots work with national movements, giving our community access to new resources, training, and networks.
